Benjamin Lloyd is a
Philadelphia-based theatre artist.
He teaches acting at Temple University and Penn State, and has taught acting at
Princeton, Arcadia and Villanova Univerisites.
In addition to performing at
every major theatre in Philadelphia, Ben has acted and directed in New York;
Edinburgh, Scotland; and Prague, the Czech Republic.
Ben’s directing credits include Johnny Has Gone for a Soldier (Adrienne Theater), The Dreamer Examines His Pillow (Theater Exile), Life Without
Parole, Please (Kraine Theatre), Hamlet Quarto 1 (People’s Light &
Theatre), Eccentrics (People’s Light & Theatre).
As an actor, Ben most recently
appeared as Scapin in Scapin at the Lantern Theater in Philadelphia. Last year, appeared as
Alphonse Lebow in Scorched at the Wilma Theater. Other recent credits include Thurston and
nine other roles in Greater Tuna at Walnut Street Theatre, Katharina in Ceal Phelan’s production of
The Taming of the Shrew at The Lantern
Theater in Philadelphia, Thomas/Louise in Lillian Groag’s production of The
Imaginary Invalid and the Reverend Hale in Miller’s The Crucible at People's Light & Theatre. Ben
has been Barrymore nominated for six of his Philadelphia performances. Ben’s
New York credits include roles at Theatre for a New Audience, NADA, HOME for
Contemporary Theatre and Art and The Public Theatre.
His book, The Actor’s Way: A Journey of Self-Discovery in
Letters,
was published by Allworth Press in May 2006. He has had articles and book reviews published in New
Theatre Quarterly, Theatre Topics, Friends Journal, and The Friend (United
Kingdom).
He has an M.F.A. in Acting from the Yale School of Drama and a
B.A. in Theatre Studies with honors from Yale College. He lives in Elkins Park,
Pennsylvania, with his wife and two children.
